Community Planning Process:

The inclusion of the Petaluma Trolley concept in the community planning process is very important as we propose to reactivate a major transportation facility, which extends through a big part of Petaluma. The community planning process is also a mandatory step in qualifying the museum for government grants. These grants are necessary to do much needed capitol improvements, like repairing the P. &S.R. Water Street Trestle at the Petaluma River Turning Basin, downtown.

A) The Central Petaluma Specific Plan
The Petaluma Trolley would connect two separate portions of the Petaluma Re-Development District. It is imperative that the concept of a heritage trolley be included in the CENTRAL PETALUMA SPECIFIC PLAN.

Petaluma and Santa Rosa Express Motor No. 8 comes quite ofter toThe Petaluma City Council and Planning Commission hosted Petaluma Trolley at a joint Meeting/Workshop. Petaluma Trolley was put on a program, in order to officially introduced the heritage trolley concept to Petaluma and asks that the trolley be included in the Central Petaluma Specific Plan. The City Council unanimously approved the inclusion of the trolley concept in the draft language of the plan. This allows the trolley to be included in the pubic comment and public hearing process of the Plan.

It is very important that the Trolley Museum be part of the Central Petaluma Specific Plan. Many folks came to the workshop on October 23rd. The Trolley Presentation kept their attention. Folks came in period costume and wore their "All Aboard Petaluma Trolley" button proudly. A number of speakers from the audience spoke out in support of the Trolley Museum concept. Continued support of this kind will be very important in the success of the Museum.

The Petaluma Trolley presentation was very well received and was broadcast on Public Access Television many times in the ensuing weeks. There is a great deal of support for the Electric Railway Museum concept. "Thank you," to the Petaluma City Council and Vice Mayor Pamela Torliatt, especially. The City of Petaluma has begun final deliberations and public hearings on the CENTRAL PETALUMA SPECIFIC PLAN.

B) The Petaluma General Plan Revision
The City of Petaluma is starting the process of reviewing its' General Plan. Among the General Plan Elements being stressed in this review are the Transportation Element and the Economic Element. This is a tremendous opportunity, as the Petaluma Trolley can have a positive effect in both of these areas.

C) The County of Sonoma
The Petaluma City Council recently voted unanimously to designate the City of Petaluma as the lead governmental agency in the acquisition of the 1880 "Phoenix" wrought iron bridge, from up near Cloverdale, to be used for the trolley crossing of the Petaluma River at Cinnabar.

D) The Northwestern Pacific Railroad Authority
Lauren Williams, president of Petaluma Trolley, presented our application for acquisition or lease of the P&SR rights of way and the trackage that is needed for the museum operation to the Northwestern Pacific Railroad Authority (NWPRA). They have granted us permission to proceed with a historic resource evaluation. This evaluation is a requirement to being able to apply for governmental grants for capital improvements.
